Boba Tea Takes Over Hollywood: Celebs Spill Their Favorite Flavors
Boba tea, the trendy Taiwanese drink sensation, has taken the United States by storm – and it’s showing no signs of slowing down, especially among Gen Z. Even Hollywood’s elite can’t get enough of the chewy tapioca pearls swimming in creamy, flavorful tea.
In an interview with BuzzFeed, several stars dished on their go-to boba orders, proving this beverage is the coolest way to beat the heat.
Stephanie Hsu, the scene-stealing actress from Everything Everywhere All At Once, revealed her unconditional love for taro boba. “Oh I love taro,” gushed the rising star. Taro, with its subtly nutty and vanilla-esque notes, is a boba classic that never goes out of style.
Watcher Entertainment’s Steven Lim goes for a strawberry matcha latte with no boba.
For Ramona Young, star of the Never Have I Ever series, simplicity reigns supreme. “The classic brown sugar with honey boba,” the actress declared. Sometimes you just can’t beat the tried-and-true originals.
Anna Cathcart is also team taro all the way. “I would say like taro with pearls. Like ice taro pearls. Classic,” she shared. When something’s delicious, why mess with perfection?
Steven Yeun, the acclaimed actor known for Minari and The Walking Dead, enjoys his boba with a twist. “Probably get like a taro milk tea or like those rose milk teas which are pretty good. With like, very few bobas, I don’t like too much bubbles. It gets in the way,” he revealed, putting his own spin on traditional orders.
Leave it to comedian extraordinaire Ali Wong to order the most unique flavor. “Right now it’s a limited edition one, it’s that one that’s like… has a pomegranate and pomelo in it. And I think some, it’s like a mango. It’s a mango pomegranate situation.” Only an adventurous palate like Wong’s could pull that off!
And heartthrob Ross Butler of 13 Reasons Why and Shazam! is team taro as well. “My favorite boba flavor would have to be taro. Taro is not too sweet, it’s a little earthy. It’s purple or lavender… periwinkle? One of those,” the actor mused poetically about his favorite beverage.
From classic flavors to unique limited-time offerings, it’s clear boba has infiltrated Hollywood in the biggest way. And with Gen Z leading the charge for the drink’s growing popularity stateside, it’s a trend that won’t be fizzling out anytime soon.
Boba tea’s chewy, creamy, and indulgent deliciousness is a bonafide cultural phenomenon – and the A-listers are on board.
